Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese technique that is used to treat a range of conditions, some of which can be treated by your dentist. Small, fine needles are used and inserted at specific points of the body and gently stimulated. For most treatment used in dentistry, needles are placed in the head and neck but sometimes points in your arms, hands and feet can be used.
Acupuncture is usually relatively painless and doesn’t usually take very long (appointments are usually 20-40 minutes long). Your dental treatment can be completed alongside acupuncture, for example it may be used to help control your gag reflex when taking impressions.

Suffering with Dental Anxiety?
”I decided to have acupuncture because i have suffered with dental anxiety for some time. I initially had a consultation with Dr Moran who made me feel at ease at the first appointment to discuss if acupuncture would be suitable. We decided that i would benefit from this treatment and booked my second appointment. Although I was anxious about the treatment but once it started all I felt was a small scratch and nothing after. I felt very relaxed through the procedure and I can’t wait for my next appointment”
Jaw Aches & Sores?
‘‘I had acupuncture on Thursday with DR Charlie Moran to try to tackle my clenching at night. I currently have a night guard but I wanted to try somethings else to ease the head aches and soreness I get around my jaw and temple everyday. I’m scared of needles and was apprehensive at first but Charlie really put me at ease and explained the whole procedure from start to finish. I’ve always been very fearful of the dentist because of past experiences, but I always knew exactly what was happening with Charlie. After going through my medical history I sat down on the dentist chair and Charlie found the points to insert the small needles. I was worried it may hurt but there is a small scratch in two of the points but then the other I couldn’t feel a thing. The anticipation of the treatment was far worse than the needles being inserted! I then relaxed for around five minutes in the chair and then the needles were taken out and again I didn’t feel a thing! I instantly felt relaxed and could feel a huge difference from my right side to left! This morning I feel like I had a much more relaxing nights sleep. I definitely recommend any one who clenches, grinds or has a phobia of treatments at the dentists to give acupuncture a try with Charlie!”
